1. Defence Aquisition Procedure – 2020 unveiled

Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh unveiled the final form of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) – 2020 on 28th September, 2020.

Key Points

  • Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) – 2020 is the renamed iteration of the Defence Procurement Procedure(DPP) which was first promulgated in the year 2002.
  • The aim of the DAP-2020 is to turn India into a global manufacturing hub under the Make in India initiative.
  • The DAP- 2020 focuses on FDI in defence manufacturing and indigenization of the manufacturing prices.
  • It enables the notification of a list of Weapons or platforms that will be banned for import.
  • New Category of Buy has been added that incorporates ‘manufacture of either the entire or a part of the equipment.
  • Time Bound Defence Procurement Process and Faster Decision Making PMU will be set up to facilitate obtaining advisory and consultancy support in the Acquisition process.

2. Vaccine Portal for COVID-19 launched

The Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan launched a vaccine portal for COVID-19 on 28th September, 2020. The portal is inaugurated in order to create awareness among masses.

Key Points

  • The vaccine portal will provide all important information on COVID-19 , vaccine development , ongoing clinical trials and progress made locally and globally.
  • The Web portal have been developed by ICMR ( Indian Council of Medical Research).
  • The vaccine portal contains all information regarding Indian efforts towards the development of a vaccine against COVID-19.
  • The National Clinical Registry for COVID-19 will collect data on clinical signs and symptoms, management protocols, clinical course of COVID-19, disease spectrum and outcomes of patients, laboratory investigations.
  • The data will serve as an invaluable tool for formulating appropriate patient management strategies, predicting disease severity, patient outcomes, etc.
